Hi guys, sorry that it's been so long since I last did a review or any kind of post! I've been busy with college work and generally adulting, if you want more regular information then don't forget my bookstagram account (@book_maiden) where I post pictures of new books that I've bought, books that I'm reading and just books I love!
Now on with the review, I bought the first 20 books in this series from a car boot sale for £5 which I thought was an absolute bargain for 20 books! I had heard of Anita Blake before because of the Marvel comics which I got hooked on and started collecting.
I really enjoyed reading this book, it seemed like a really easy read, the main character (Anita) is really relatable, she's quite a realist and she has a dry sharp and sometimes silly sense of humour, the writing was really easy to follow and I got into this book quite quickly, in terms of the story line I found it quite predictable in some places because I'd worked out who the villain was half way through the book but I still enjoyed reading it to the end, the main characters were easy to like but in parts I found it hard to remember who was who with some of the background characters.
Overall I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed Buffy the Vampire Slayer as it's along the same vein, if you've read any of the comic's I'd suggest you read the books too as Anita comes across more sassy in the books and I enjoy when a main character is as strong-willed as she is.
I enjoyed the romantic aspect of the storyline (who doesn't like a good love triangle - ish) the contrast in the relationship between Anita and Jean-Claude compared to her relationship with Phillip makes it hard to decide who Anita would be better with as both men provide her with something that all women want, Jean-Claude has that sexy mysterious air about him and of course the danger of him being a vampire, Phillip has that raw sweetness of the type of guy you could see yourself settle down with.
I enjoyed this book and I will try and read the other books in the series but at the moment I'm a little intimidated by the size of the series, I might have to read them in between other books so that I don't get too dragged down by a 22 book series.
Thank you all for sticking with me while I try to keep blogging regularly and I'm sorry for the long waits between books, I'm currently reading Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell which I'm really enjoying (you should all read it) so keep an eye out for that review which should be coming up at the end of June or the beginning of July depending on when I finish it!
